This month's guest beauty expert is award-winning make-up artist Sarah Brock, who we've had the pleasure of working with on many of our fashions shoots and makeovers in Brides magazine. Tell us a bit about yourself... In 2008 I won the Wedding Industry Awards Make-up Artist of the Year (which was sponsored by Brides) and in 2009 won the Professional Beauty Awards Make-up Specialist of the Year. I am the Director of Makeup Artistry for Daniel Sandler (www.danielsandler.com), and have appeared on Wedding TV as a make-up expert and regularly work as a make-up artist for Brides.
How can a bride book with you?
I ask brides to email me the date, time and location of the wedding and how many people need make-up. Then I email a quote and we take it from there. The price for my bridal package varies (depending on travel etc) but they start from £275 for a local venue. This includes a trial at my studio in Wiltshire 6-4 weeks before the wedding. I take photos of her make-up and post them to her a few days later, so she can see how she looks on camera. I can also provide make-up lessons.
If a bride wants to do her own make-up, do you have any good tips ?
Have a lesson with a make-up artist. Most department store brands offer lessons but I'd recommend brands such as Daniel Sandler that have a team of trained make-up artists all over the UK who offer 1-to-1 lessons. It has to look photographically perfect and last all day (and withstand tears!) and a professional will show you how to achieve this. Have the lesson 3 months before your wedding, so you have time to buy the recommended products and start practising! What are you top must-have products for bridal make-up? - Lancôme GENIFIQUE Youth Activating Serum under your moisturiser to make skin feel re-plumped, refined and re-illuminated. - Daniel Sandler Super Mineral Makeup foundation (light coverage) or Chanel Pro Lumiere Professional Finish Makeup (heavier coverage) - Chantecaille eyeshadows, which are sheer and long-lasting - Lancôme Oscillation Powerbooster - an amazing thickening basecoat for lashes - Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blush for a long-lasting dewy look on the cheeks - YSL Rouge Volupte Lipsticks - they're really pretty and give a good, but not heavy, coverage (and the packaging is divine!) What are the classic bridal make-up mistakes to avoid? 1. Using the wrong shade or formulation of foundation The wrong colour will show in your photographs! When shopping for foundation, have a consultation and take away samples to try and home and check in daylight. Choose a light, silicone-based foundation rather than a heavy greasy formulation. 2. Using too much sparkle A little bit of shimmer can look pretty, but don't overdo it with sparkle as it will stand out in your photographs! 3. Choosing a totally different look Every bride wants to look stunning on her wedding day (and rightly so) but do choose a look that enhances your best features and doesn't make you look like a totally different person. www.sarahbmakeup.co.uk Check out Sarah's bridal beauty blog at www.bridalbeautybuzz.com
