I'm loving the fact that my How To features are inspiring you. I know this because you've been emailing and writing to say so, which is brilliant news. The homespun look is definitely hip and I'm constantly looking for new ways to add a personal touch to your wedding. I like the idea that in the lead up to the Big Day, you can take some time out with your bridesmaids - or perhaps groom if he's willing - and get creative. Whether it's handmade place names, personalised favours or homemade cupcakes, I guarantee it's the little unique details that will make your wedding stand out from the rest. Aside from all the great ideas in the magazine, there are courses out there which will appeal to the true DIY divas among you. Here are some of my favourites:
Learn to make your own hand-tied bridal bouquet, as well as buttonholes for your groom and ushers at Lubi Lu, the floral boutique in Regent's Park, London. The course includes a demonstation of tablecentres by an experienced florist who will also share tips on dressing your tables and styling your reception space. The two hour classes cost £70 and take place on November 10, 14 and 24. www.lubilu.com.
Exciting news - the queen of cakes, Mich Turner, has just annouced dates for her 2010 Masterclasses. Sign up for The Little Venice Cake Company's hand piping course and learn how to professionally ice and decorate your wedding cake. The course is designed for complete novices, but if you have experience in cake decoration, then it's a great opportunity to learn new techniques. The one day masterclasses are taking place on January 16 and 17 at the chic Langham Hotel in London. £185 per person, including a Champagne afternoon tea. www.lvcc.co.uk.
If you like the idea of creating homemade canapes (I'd recommend that only brides with small guestlists attempt this!), then the Urban Caprice Canape Club is for you. This is a hands-on class where you'll learn to make delicious seasonal canapés from top chef, Iain Graham. All the ingredients you'll need are provided on the day and you'll be given detailed recipes to take home with you. It is also an original hen party idea. Prices from £175 per person. www.urbancaprice.co.uk.
