Exciting royal wedding news update! One week after their engagement was announced, the Palace have confirmed today that Prince William and Kate Middleton will marry on Friday April 29 2011 at Westminster Abbey. Kate accepted Prince William's proposal - which he made using his mother's blue sapphire and diamond engagement ring - while the couple holidayed in Kenya last month, although Clarence House only confirmed that they were to marry last Tuesday.
Prime Minister David Cameron has declared that William and Kate's spring wedding day will also be a public bank holiday, saying: "We want to mark the day as one of national celebration, a public holiday will ensure the most people possible will have a chance to celebrate on the day."
By tying the knot in Westminster Abbey, Prince William and Kate Middleton will be following in the Queen's footsteps - Her Royal Highness married the Duke of Edinburgh there in 1947.
