The wedding of Kate and Wills is formally announced in black lettering, on stiff white card with a gilt edge and with the Queen's insignia emblazoned in gold at the top. Guests are invited by the Lord Chamberlain, "commanded by the Queen, to the marriage of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales KG with Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey on Friday April 29 2011 at 11am." They are asked to wear uniform, morning suits or lounge suits. Although not written, ladies will surely be expected to wear a fabulous hat.
The lucky 1,900 attending the not-so-intimate ceremony will include friends of the couple, members of the British royal family, crowned heads of state, members of the government, parliament and diplomatic corps, and guests from the charities and organisations of which William is a patron. 600 of the 1900 have been invited to the reception hosted by the Queen after the ceremony and a lucky 300 to a dinner in the evening, hosted by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace. Notably off the list are the Obamas (sweetened by a state visit in May) and Fergie (one too many embarrassing incidents!). On the list are David and Victoria Beckham and close friend of the couple Holly Branson, who herself has just got engaged to long term boyfriend Fred Andrews.
