This week Javier Salvador and Tony Marlew of By Appointment Only Design (www.byappointmentonlydesign.com) hosted what will no doubt go down as the party of the season. They transformed top venue One Mayfair (www.onemayfair.com) into an uber-glam party setting and brought together the very best of the bridal industry to showcase new trends in wedding reception décor, bridal gowns, catering and gift lists.
I created a chic table look for the event - inspired by Valentine's Day - combining huge black urns of red roses with layered red and black plates, a striped table runner and smart French-style chairs. The aim was to show that wedding reception décor doesn't always have to equal 'white and traditional'. A confident wedding scheme like this, using strong colours, such as ruby red and black can look stunning.
I am a stickler for detail and was delighted that Peggy Porschen (www.peggyporschen.com) found the time to create some mini tiered wedding cakes for the table. These took pride of place at each setting and are such a cute alternative to serving your wedding cake by the slice. The talented Paul Antonio Scribe (www.paulantonioscribe.com) designed some gorgeous table stationery including gold leaf embellished menus and an invitation that almost stole the show. The look was finished off with swathes of red velvet and tea lights, because we all know that everything looks best by candlelight!
