Less than three months to go and I'm shifting up a gear and speeding through the wedding to-do list like a woman possessed. This week: invites are back from the printers, a hair trial is booked, wedding rings ordered and in possibly the most exciting news - the honeymoon is booked!
As I mentioned before - the key to finding a honeymoon that suits both of you is a bit of balance. Action Pete had been sorted for a few months with our second leg of honeymoon adventure in the astoundingly beautiful Ladakh in northern India with Shakti Himalaya (www.shaktihimalaya.com). They organise seven day tours (which can be as active or less so as you like) walking, rafting and being driven through the area moving between traditional converted village houses each night exploring the amazing scenery, visiting some of the many Buddhist monasteries (being on the border with Tibet it is an incredibly spiritual area) and discovering the region. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
As much as I can not wait to get there, I know with the whirlwind that will be the wedding we needed some time just to sit still before we head for the hills. That's where the lovely Susie Reynolds at Scott Dunn Travel (www.scottdunn.com) came in. The beauty of working with a tour operator (apart from having them ride in as knights in shining armour should anything, touch wood it doesn't, go wrong - hello, ash cloud) is their on-the-ground knowledge (they're enviously well-travelled people), throwing up new ideas and destinations you might not have thought of, and crucially for a multi-stop honeymoon - making sure you don't spend more time in the air than on the ground with impressive knowledge of flight schedules and connections.
My flights to Ladakh meant changing at Delhi so a direct (and not to lengthy) flight in from my first stop was a priority. Susie suggested Sri Lanka - pretty good weather in August (when many other destinations in the area risk monsoon rains), beautiful beaches (and fascinating inlands if you had more time) plus pretty good value for money compared to other Indian Ocean islands - a bonus for someone who's spent most of their budget on cake-stands and stripy string - perfect!
Beach and adventure... our dream honeymoon is shaping up nicely...
