Now that I've seen the floor plan of our wedding marquee, it's time to start thinking about how I'm going to transform this huge white space into a sophisticated setting for our reception.
Having designed hundreds of wedding schemes for the pages of Brides Magazine, you'd think I could do this in my sleep. But in actual fact, it's taken a long time for me to pin down an ultimate look. After ten months of chopping and changing colour combinations, I've settled for a palette that reflects my style - classical, smart but a little unexpected.
I want a reception setting that's romantic, so as a starting point, I've chosen flowers in soft blush pinks, creamy whites and warm apricot tones. Top florist and event stylists, Javier and Tony at By Appointment Only Design are designing dramatic table centre arrangements of Garden Roses, Dahlias, Stocks, Wax Flower and Astilbe, which will sit high on glass pedestal vases. I know there are going to be utterly gorgeous, so will be highlighting each arrangement with a spotlight for extra impact.
Inspired by my favourite paint colour (Elephant's Breath by Farrow and Ball) I've decided to carpet the floor and dress the round tables in dark grey. The gold charger plates and chairs will 'pop' against the grey linen, as will the standard white china and silverware provided by the venue. To complete the look, there will be clusters of gold tea lights to make sure the tabletops twinkle, and overhead, a ceiling full of oversized crystal chandeliers.
So, there it is - my dream scheme of soft pinks, peaches and cream and dark grey with gold accents. I hope it will turn our marquee from 'white' to 'wow' and set the scene for an unforgettable party.
