Cushion & asscher cut diamonds are a big trend for 2012 claims Richard Warrender founder of London private jewellers W&W who specialise in creating and sourcing jewellery, plus remodelling existing pieces; 'their shape suits a whole host of setting designs, particularly tapered baguette cut diamond shoulders, or a double diamond cluster'.

HOW TO BUY AN ENGAGEMENT RING

Richard has also seen a big uptake on coloured stones; clients are choosing sapphires or emeralds in either a reverse cluster - the colour stones circling the diamond, or as a pair either side of the diamond. Both styles compliment the diamond and draw your eye to it. Modern is also back in a big way with fewer couples choosing a classic solitaire, but instead opting for a much more contemporary rub-over setting for the brilliant cut diamond.

Commissioning a bespoke engagement ring is becoming increasingly popular. Jeweller W&W are the go-to experts if you're looking to create a unique piece to last a lifetime.
