So, everyone talks about finding the right dress, shoes, make-up artist and venue. But let me tell you something girls, in these times where fey, floral, ethereal weddings are the in thing, you really need to find the right florist too.
I want my venue to resemble a meadow full of fresh, wild flowers and due to this I really needed someone who'd get my vision and wouldn't try to push elaborate arrangements on me. And so I went to Twig, which is (and you can absolutely quote me on this) the coolest florist shop in the whole world.
The owner and creative director Michael Pooley and I clicked immediately and he was a) totally honest with us about what we could do with our budget (ie, there were no hidden costs - the eye-opening thing about planning a wedding, right girls?) b) Open about how we could get more for our money and c) a wonderful guide when it came to what would work. For example, when I said I want posies of gypsy everywhere, he warned me they have a strong cat pee smell (and they really do). And when I asked for expensive flowers, he told me how much they would cost per stem and offered me cheaper alternatives. Pretty awesome, no?
The result is that my fiancé and I are going to provide about 70 containers (jam jars, bottles, quirky vases) and Michael and his team will fill them with flowers that are in season near the date of our wedding. And it's going to look amazing! My bouquet will be a combination of wild flowers and Miss Piggy roses, while my bridesmaids and flowergirls will have wild flowers and grasses. It will be flower-fairy-tastic.
My last couple of weeks before the wedding haven't been amazing in all honesty (my dress didn't turn when it was supposed to, a bridesmaid pulled out, the NHS lost my medical record and I almost couldn't get vaccinated for my honeymoon in Vietnam) and so having someone I totally trust on board has been so important. I couldn't gush more about Twig - it really has been this bride's dream florist.
