Couture Fashion Week is a chance to escape and dream, fantasize and let your imagination get the very best of you… So it comes as a slight surprise that Karl Lagerfeld would take this opportunity to take a stand on marriage equality. And yet, take a stand he has.
The creative director closed his legendary Chanel show with two brides, instead of the customary one, holding hands as a declaration of his support for same-sex marriage in the country.
French President Francois-Hollande is expected to endorse a controversial law that will allow same-sex marriage on Friday.
When asked if the use of the two brides was in support of the legalisation, Largerfeld responded, ever so coolley: "Of course it was."
"I don't even understand the debate," he added. "Since 1904 [in France], the church and state have been separate."
Lagerfeld's comments come just after Barack Obama's reference to gay rights in his inauguration speech earlier this week.
Is it about time marriage equality was the norm? Barack and Karl certainly seem to think so...
