Team Brides is a big fan of designer Kate Halfpenny's creations, and now we can offer you an exclusive preview of her latest bridal collection, Flora Romance, plus a sneak peek at three videos created to coincide with the collection. Prepare to fall in deep sartorial love.
Inspired by a John William Waterhouse painting, the 2016 collection is all about "romance and femininity", says Kate. But in true Halfpenny London style, each dress has a modern vintage feel that is easy-to-wear and effortlessly cool. Brides adores Swan (hello feathered skirt and delicate, lace cap sleeves) and Iris, updated for the new season to capture the classic English rose look in full French lace, with a narrow satin belt.
Kate is known for creating bridal gowns that love every body, from super skinny to gorgeously curvy, such is the adaptability of her designs. And this collection is no exception, featuring a mix of separates and dresses, "so there really is something for everyone, regardless of their shape," adds Kate.
Among the hand-finished, London-made dresses is Clémence - a drop-dead gorgeous Grecian number in fine, watery tulle, and Milly Bafta, which features metallic bullion hand-embroidered appliqué. As the name suggests, it wouldn't look out of place on the red carpet.
While cool is key with Halfpenny designs, luxury is also a big factor in the new collection. "I've used a French lace in the Berry jacket, and Fifi and Iris dresses, which is super fine with a large floral design," says Kate. "Together with delicately finished French seams, and edges bound with duchess satin binding, it gives the collection a look and feel of pure yet modern luxury." In other words, it's totally dreamy.
"The inspiration behind the films was simply to show the delicious movement to the dresses; we use liquid satins and silks in our garments, and we felt that the only way to show this was on film. The '60s vibe of the music really captures the drama of the films and gives it an aspirational fun twist."
