When it comes to choosing the tipples for your big day, does it matter how much you spend? Will your guests always enjoy a more expensive option - or will they even be able to tell the difference? To find out the answers to these burning questions at Brides the Show 2017, Brides headed to the Sommeliers' Table to take a tasting masterclass with wine experts Corney & Barrow.

ALL THE LATEST NEWS FROM BRIDES THE SHOW

First up, Corney & Barrow wine buyer Margaux Carpentier explained exactly what you're paying for when you buy a bottle of your favourite red, white or sparkling wine - and it turns out it's all about ratios. So, the cheaper the bottle, the more, proportionately, you're paying for VAT, packaging and costs. Whereas, "The more you spend, the more of your money goes towards the quality of the actual wine in the bottle," said Margaux.

Margaux then gave us all six wines to sample - two price options each for Prosecco (£10.95 and £14.50), Malbec (£8.95 and £16.95) and Pinot Grigio (£7.95 and £11.95). We swirled, sniffed and sipped each glass in turn, comparing the expensive and affordable versions. And the verdict? All the brides-to-be in the masterclass said that the more expensive wines tasted richer and more elegant, with more body. However, the affordable options were all very popular too, being fresh and easy to drink - the Prosecco, in particular, went down a treat!
