We don't want a church wedding, but can't decide whether to get married and have the reception at the same place or get married in the registry office then have a hotel, hall etc for our reception. What are your opinions and experiences on this?

  • Hi there Terri, Congratulations first of all on your impending marriage. Have you thought of another alternative. Get married cheaply and quietly at the Register Office - complete the formalities. Then... get a Celebrant to conduct a service for you at the hotel and you can have whatever you want in your service. It wouldn't be an 'off the peg' service but bespoke and tailor made to suit you and your groom. It could be at a time to suit you - later in the evening if you wish, or outside...if could have a religious element if you feel that might be appropriate. On top of all that....if might even work out cheaper than getting the Registars to attend. Go to my website www.sallyward.info if you want further information. Love Sally xx

  • I once went to a wedding where the service was in a room, then the reception was in the dinging hall [this was in a stately home place in the north, really nice]. For me, it was one of the best weddings I've been to: no-one got lost trying to find another venue, everyone was more relaxed and the day went well. In my opinion, that's what I would do in your situation. Congrats and hope everything goes well for you!

  • I had the exact same query!!! And its stressful not knowing exactly where you want to host your wedding, not to mention all the other stresses that comes with the lead up of the day! I'm doing my wedding on a budget so this made things worse till my mate showed me this company on facebook called ukweddingsavings - they have venues at a discounted price which made my life waaaay easier Now i'm getting married in an 18th grade II country manor house (Hadlow Manor in Kent), with bridal breakfast amongst loads of other perks. Deffo worth a look! Now just STILL got to find my dress :/
