After last week's Baftas, Jackie Tyson (the resident make-up artist for X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent) got in touch and took me through Kate Winslet's red carpet look.
'Kate's look was spot-on: clear, flawless, plump and healthy skin with no-makeup make-up. Her skin was gorgeous; look at the sheen across the apples of the cheeks reflecting the red carpet lighting. The key to getting this look is about your preparation and tools. Used a delicate scrub in the days leading up to the occasion, like Karin Herzog Mild Scrub (£30, www.karinherzog.co.uk) with its fine marble powder spheres to slough off dead skin without any abrasive action. Moisturise and remove any excess with a facial tissue. Try out a primer to help minimise lines, even the skin tone and close open pores. I like Avon's Magix Face Perfector (£10; www.avonshop.co.uk) to reduce oil and shine in all the wrong places, so you can apply a sheen in all the right places. Use a soft fan-shaped brush dipped in a iridescent powder across the surfaces of the face that the light naturally hits, such as the nose, forehead and cheeks.'
