Charlotte Tilbury is responsible for the red carpet make-up of Hollywood's most fabulous stars and her eponymous beauty collection was the toast of the beauty world. She is also the artist behind the bridal looks of some of our favourite celebs - including Kate Moss, Poppy Delevingne and, most recently, herself (pictured).
We turned to Charlotte Tilbury, make-up artist extraordinaire and A-list favourite, to share her top tips for brides-to-be:
Whatever you do, don't skip the primer! "Primer is the key to ensuring your makeup lasts on your special day," explains Tilbury. "You really don't want to be topping up your makeup as the opening chords of your first dance start up! Think of it like painting a canvas, you always prime before you start with paint to make sure the surface is even and non-porous. Makeup primers have exactly the same effect on skin - they even out your skin tone, veil pores, protect your skin from pollution, and ultimately make sure your makeup stays put for longer. It's really worth investing, as the best ones ensure real staying power." Try Tilbury's WonderGlow, aka 'Gisele-in-a-jar': It will prime the skin and illuminate it too.
Powder is essential. How do you get skin to have that flawless, airbrushed finish? "I rely on powder to set my make-up looks," says Tilbury. "It locks in your make-up effortlessly. Be warned, I only like to use powders on the T-zone, down the nose, on the chin and across the forehead, as I always keep the cheekbones free of powder so that they remain blissfully fresh-looking and dewy, catching the light while you gleam with happiness." Try Airbrush Flawless Finish Micro-powder: "it's like the highest thread-count cashmere for your skin. Skin-perfection!"
Remain true to your look. "I chose The Dolce Vita look for my wedding day," explains Tilbury."It's my signature look and I adore the beautiful burnished bronzes, browns, and the smoldering bling shade. On your special day, you don't want to look dramatically different, just the most gorgeous, most mesmerising version of yourself."
Lip-liners are you new best friend. According to Tilbury, a well-sharpened lip-liner is the secret behind sumptuous, pillow-y, long-lasting perfection: "It acts as an instant youth-booster by redefining a faded lip line, but also as a stencil for application of your lipstick. It will also make your lipstick last much longer. Just apply lipstick over the top with a square-tipped brush for precision, and then finish with a slick of high-shine lipgloss for 3D volume."
Tear-proof yourself! Waterproof mascara is a must, but where waterproof versions fail (to curl, separate, add volume and length) there is Tilbury's now legendary 5 star Full Fat Lashes: "I use three coats of this to elongate and thicken the lashes and finish with a coat of Lancome's Hypnose Waterproof Mascara to seal it."
