Designer Monique Lhuillier, whose whimsical bridal designs are to die for, has partnered with Essie to create her first bridal nail varnish collection. As expected, they're beautiful.

Using Essie's gel couture longwear formula - because the last thing you want on your big day is a chipped nail - there are six shades in the collection which all match Monique's famous feminine and romantic aesthetic. Whether you want something classic and nude (you'll love ' lace to the alter'), modern (the soft grey of ' sage you love me' is a fab choice) or a bold red (the plum ' berry in love' suits every skin tone), there's sure to be a shade that suits your wedding vibe.

'I created shades that fit every bride, perfectly complementing their dress and beauty,' Says Monique. 'On my wedding day, that meant a traditional soft pink based manicure, for some that means a pop of berry red or metallic gold.  This collection brings that 'perfect fit' feeling right down to a bride's fingertips.'

We caught up with the bridal designer ahead of her SS18 show in New York next month to find out more about the show, plus how to take a great engagement selfie…

If you were to marry your husband again, which shade would you choose to wear?

' Dress is more', it's a great, sophisticated neutral. I like it keep it simple when it comes to my nails!

What's your top tip for taking a non-cringe worthy engagement selfie?

It is important to capture the moment! For such an important event, the image needs to feel organic. Don't look into the camera and pose. Take candid shots that capture the happiness and excitement of your engagement.

What can we expect to see from you for Spring/Summer 2018 bridal? What's your inspiration behind the collection?

So many ideas! My inspiration is to create a memorable, timeless collection with unique, authentic pieces perfect for the many different kinds of modern brides and modern weddings. One look will be grand and over the top, one modern and simple. A more extreme collection.

What advice would you give an engaged girl who doesn't know what she wants to wear yet?

Go on Pinterest and Instagram and see what inspires you, then visit multiple boutiques and try on every silhouette so you can make an informed decision. Don't do too much research ahead of time, be open-minded. So many of my brides are surprised by the style that looks best on them!

Which piece from your Autumn/Winter 2017 bridal collection would you most like to wear?

The Pascale gown would definitely be my pick. I love how its two looks in one - a beautiful floral embroidered gown with a removable tulle overskirt. The slimmer silhouette is great for dancing and the soft apricot colour is unexpected.

Monique Lhuillier x Essie collection is available at priced at £9.99 each.
