'We loved the idea of Africa for our honeymoon,' says newlywed Alex,  'Kenya's stunning landscapes, wildlife and luxurious lodges, combined with Zanzibar's beaches, ticked all the boxes. We flew to Nairobi where we spent a night before flying to Joy's Camp in Shaba, northern Kenya, with its luxurious tents, pool and outdoor restaurant. Every morning we ventured into the bush in our own jeep. We saw elephants, lions, deer, antelopes and giraffes on our very first drive.

It was then on to Elephant Watch in Samburu, where we stayed in one of six beautiful rooms on the banks of a river. There was real indoor/outdoor feel with open-air tents, outdoor bathrooms and huge terraces. The camp is owned by an Italian-Kenyan and run by Masai warriors. The food was amazing and the vibe totally chilled out.

We took a short flight to the Masai Mara - the largest reserve in Kenya - where we stayed at Saruni, a lodge with a cute little spa. One evening, we spent an hour watching a cheetah and her cubs playing and fighting.
After six nights on safari we flew to Zanzibar to spend two days at the lovely Zanzibar Palace hotel in Stone Town before moving on to Matemwe, a little lodge with thatched bungalows on the beach. The atmosphere was laid-back, the beach was gorgeous and the sea views were amazing.

Going on safari makes for a fabulous honeymoon. The combination of luxurious camps, stunning landscapes and the experience of seeing so many wild animals in their natural habitat is unbeatable. However, the early starts can be tiring and moving around every couple of nights can be unsettling. You definitely need beach time at the end.'
