Effortlessly romantic Paris may be famed for its grand boulevards and opulent hotels, but it's down the little winding side streets that you'll find the city's chicest gems.
Hotel Angely is one of these. Tucked away in the hip Bastille district, this small but stylish hotel is a new arrival. What makes it special is its blend of old-school elegance with something a little more edgy. The reception, for instance, has a wall of shimmery white curtains and giant cloud-like installations on the ceiling, alongside squashy velvet sofas and large fireplaces.
The rooms are equally original; many open straight into the slate-tiled bathrooms (which sounds odd, but is a smart use of space), and all are dominated by floor-to-ceiling shuttered windows. But this is where their similarity ends - while 'Gold' rooms have rich striped walls and oversized cushioned headboards, 'Céleste' rooms have ethereal patterns dancing across the walls and diaphanous curtains around the beds. The rooms at Hotel Angely may not be colossal, but the style quota is, making this the perfect bolthole for a swish Paris adventure.
WOW FACTOR The Diamond Lovers Suite, featuring a round bath draped with a shimmering beaded curtain, more of those ceiling clouds, a giant circular bed and sigh-worthy views of the Paris skyline.
