The Aman hotel group doesn't do signs. So don't worry as you rumble off the main road and down a tree-lined track 20 minutes outside the coastal town of Bodrum. A few twists and turns later, you emerge at Amanruya's stunning entrance.

The hotel, which opened in December, is all about space: 36 pale stone cottages are set in 50 acres of pine and herb-clad hillside, and have lofty ceilings and huge hamman-style bathrooms.

The restaurant, serving Turkish, Thai and Western dishes, is spread across four pavilions overlooking the 50m-long green marble pool, and there are endless cushion-filled lounges to hide away in with a glass of Turkish wine.

The hotel is surrounded by cove beaches, pretty towns and history. Take a trip to Bodrum and see what's left of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, plus the 15th-century castle in the harbour that crusaders constructed using marble columns stolen from the mausoleum!

WOW FACTOR: Charter the hotel's yacht to take you round a few bays to Turkbuku, dubbed 'Turkey's St Tropez'.
