L'Avenida, in the picturesque town of Sóller, was once a mansion belonging to a citrus-fruit merchant.
Today it's a boutique hotel restored to its former glory by a British couple who fell in love with Mallorca and put their former careers as interior designers to evident good use.
With just eight rooms, it's cosy yet stylish. Each room has funky printed wallpaper, high ceilings and period features, as well as a slick bathroom with Starck fittings. The black chandeliers, contemporary lights and grey silk drapes add to the luxurious feel.
There's also a courtyard and a bar with a terrace overlooking the pool. Thanks to the staff, staying here feels like you're visiting a friend's rather wonderful home, from the frittata, jamón and café con leche breakfast to the barbecue dinner.
WOW FACTOR: Take the wooden tram down to Port de Sóller and try one of the top restaurants by the marina.
GO: Doubles from £208 B&B (avenida-hotel.com). Easyjet (easyjet.com) flies to Palma from £55 return.
