Now here's an island that you can't refuse... Thirty miles north of Tahiti, Tetiaroa is an enchanting necklace of 12 beach-fringed motus (islets) that was once the private atoll of Hollywood legend Marlon Brando. Now it's home to a new escape that's a world away from the big resorts that have made French Polynesia such a global honeymoon hotspot.
Firstly, it's very exclusive - the only way on to the island is on the resort's own plane, which leaves from a dedicated terminal at Fa'a'a International Airport in Papette, Tahiti.
Secondly, the mood here is 'luxury unplugged' - there's no long, cookie-cutter parade of overwater bungalows, just 35 majestic beachfront villas, each with an outdoor bath, plunge pool, rocking chair for two, and a pair of chic vintage-style bicycles for freewheeling through the coconut palms.
Thirdly, you're not presented with any nasty bills at checkout, because everything is included in the price: unlimited champagne, dreamy Polynesian spa treatments, lagoon cruises, and superb French cuisine created by Guy Martin, chef at the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Le Grand Véfour in Paris.
Most guests drop into The Brando at the start or the end of a Polynesian island-hopping tour, or just go for a week of idyllic castaway romance, snorkelling in the ridiculously clear waters of the South Pacific, and eating mangoes while lounging on its sand.
WOW FACTOR: For whale-watching, it's a location that's hard to beat. Humpbacks can be seen breaching from your breakfast table as they pass by - August to October is the best time to try to spot them.
GO: The Turquoise Holiday Company (turquoiseholidays.co.uk) offers seven nights from £8,665 per person. Includes flights and transfers.
