Rachel Ruiz, 31, an advertising manager, and her TV producer husband, Federico, 32, decided to blow their budget, and turn their honeymoon into a super-luxurious maxi-moon. Here's the lowdown (we're not envious at all)…
"It's just a 30-minute hop from Fanjove Island to Zanzibar, which would take us from eco-castaway to ultra luxury. The Residence is in a divine setting, sitting in front of a mile-long white-sand beach, and has a super-romantic sea-front restaurant. Take your pick from 66 secluded villas, or go all-out with the magnificent Presidential Suite, where you'll enjoy a private pool (one in which you can do proper laps), a vast decking area and, just yards away, at the bottom of some steps, a jaw-droppingly beautiful lagoon. Getting around the resort was a breeze - you'll find your own bicycles waiting for you on arrival - and we were soon freewheeling our way between the various restaurants, the spa, and even the bird sanctuary. All that exercise came in handy after we gorged on the truly delicious offerings here, from cuisine and drink inspired by the Mediterranean to the Middle East, and also food with a local African influence. Try the special stomach massage at the spa - although best avoided after a long lunch!"
WOW FACTOR Dinner on the beach by a blazing bonfire, followed by a brilliant bongo band, whose lively beats get your private party for two started.

We can still hear the friendly cry of 'Jambo!' - the warm Swahili hello that every member of staff greets you with, and it's this super service at The Residence Zanzibar that really sets it apart as one slick operator.
In 80 acres of palm forest, 66 elegantly designed villas blend Swahili and European influences with all the honeymoon must-haves (private pool, huge egg-shaped bath, butler service) as standard. This is how to do beautiful beach-time in style.
Make sure you potter down at high tide, when you can swim in the warm Indian Ocean. A gorgeous mile of white sand, it's swept twice a day so it always looks perfect.
Free daily snorkelling trips are worth rolling off your sun lounger for, as is a trip to see the sights, sounds and smells (this is the 'Spice Island') of the Unesco World Heritage Site of Stone Town.
Back at the hotel, those spices translate into a delicious blend of African and Omani flavours in The Dining Room.
WOW FACTOR: The main pool is glass-sided - great for comedy photos!
