Rachel Ruiz, 31, an advertising manager, and her TV producer husband, Federico, 32, decided to blow their budget, and turn their honeymoon into a super-luxurious maxi-moon. Here's the lowdown (we're not envious at all)…
"We were hankering for a hotel that put us right in the heart of the Australian capital's action, and the Blue Sydney Taj did just that. Above the bars and restaurants of boho Woolloomooloo Wharf, this sizeable yet boutique-feel bolthole is a member of Leading Hotels Of The World. It used to be a wool- and cargo-handling facility, and its glossy reincarnation nods to the past, with the building retaining the original exposed iron and timber frame, giving it an industrial-luxe feel. We stayed in a split-level loft room - downstairs was a bright living area overlooking the marina; upstairs was our bedroom. Tempting as it was to enjoy the vibrant city whirr from our waterside refuge, the walk through the Botanical Gardens opposite, round to Circular Quay and the Opera House, was too enticing to pass up. It was a delight to discover this inviting haven in such a top spot."
WOW FACTOR You'll be stunned by the great views of the city's skyline (and the bridge, from higher rooms) if you stay in a room on the west side of the wharf. Warning: rooms on the east side should be booked by those who prefer large grey warships - Garden Island naval base is just across the narrow strip of water!
