Think the Maldives are all no news, no shoes and nothing to do? Niyama will make you think again.
The funkier sibling to Maldives stalwart Huvafen Fushi, it splashed on to the scene in 2012, offering up-to-date tech (iPad room controls, the latest movies) and a bumper line-up of watersports. But, for spa lovers, all this comes second to the pleasures that can be found at Lime, Niyama's 24-hour spa.
Whether it's a sleep-inducing massage at bedtime; a pick-me-up scrub at sunrise, using Maldivian coral sand and coconut oil; or a mid-afternoon bliss-fest in one of the two spa sanctuaries, Lime's day or night concept is addictive - as is the lime sorbet served before each treatment.
The spa also offers Private Lime, a bespoke package. Lime is located on 'Chill', one of Niyama's two islands - the second, the more upbeat and brand new 'Play', is accessible by a wooden bridge if the spa begins to lose its appeal. As if.
WOW FACTOR: Unusually for the Maldives, all rooms have a full-sized fridge filled with cold meats, cheeses, wine and complimentary ice cream.
GO: The Turquoise Holiday Company (www.turquoiseholidays.co.uk) offers seven nights from £2,389 per person, half board. Includes flights and transfers

You know you are off to a hip resort when your meet'n'greet guy at the airport is holding an iPad. Before you know it, you're whizzed over to Niyama's seaplane lounge where even the wi-fi password is 'fantastic'.
This all sets the tone for Niyama's thoroughly 21st-century castaway isle, where you can watch straight-from-the-cinema films in your room (with your own popcorn-maker) or visit an underwater club that's hosted Tinie Tempah.
For all its mod cons, though, the timeless attractions are just as memorable - the shimmering ocean and the white sand, palm-shrouded island that's just 750m long.
Alternate between divine sushi poolside at Epicure and the tented safari-style Tribal, which offers up a meat lover's fantasy (everything from spit-roasted suckling pig to springbok).
WOW FACTOR: There's a maxi-bar in-room, with a fully stocked, full-sized fridge, complimentary fresh fruit and mini-tubs of ice cream in the freezer.
FLIGHT TIME: 11 hours.
