New Zealand's largest private victorian residence has laid-back luxe down to a T. It was once the home of politician Sir Heaton Rhodes, and has been lovingly restored by its owner, Hall Cannon, back to its former sparkling self.
Exclusivity is key; the house has only seven suites, but book the Rhodes Suite, which is full of lavish touches and plush fabrics. There's plenty to do for the outdoorsy here, from heli-touring to horse riding, but really, it's all about the food, which is freshly produced and estate-grown. Try your hand at mushroom foraging, or take a guided tour of the brightly coloured flora with the head gardener.
WOW FACTOR Ever wanted to learn to roll pasta by hand? Book a fun-filled private cookery lesson with executive chef Jimmy McIntyre.
