Discerning travel bible Condé Nast Traveller has just released its Hot List 2010, covering the 66 coolest new hotels in the world. Out of those 66, Halaveli in the Maldives has made it as one of the top five destinations for honeymooners...

Halaveli, in the North Ari atoll of the Maldives, is the latest resort from the Constance Group (which also has hotels in Mauritius, Madagascar and the Seychelles). All the requirements for a top-spec beach paradise are here: dazzling white sand; gin-clear water; a funky beach boutique selling Melissa Odabash bikinis; an upmarket organic spa and outsized beanbags on the beach. As is customary in the Maldives, much of the accommodation on this small natural island is in water villas, set on stilts off a long wooden jetty. But these are villas with attitude, featuring the latest technology and private infinity-edged plunge pools. There are three restaurants to sample: one with its own wine cellar; another on the beach where gentle waves kiss your toes as you breakfast on chilli omelettes and watermelon juice. Dive here, or simply snorkel and, if the fates are in your favour, you'll get to swim with dolphins and the vast whale sharks which congregate year-round in these waters. Needless to say, Halaveli is a honey-pot for honeymooners, but there's also a kids' club, plus a first-rate gym with dedicated personal trainer, a professional mixologist at the bar (try her whisky sours) and the opportunity to practise yoga on the beach at sunrise, under the watchful eye of the resident heron.
