Cut out a large rectangle (8x13cm) and a smaller rectangle (1x6cm) from the striped or velvet fabric, and hem them both. Pinch the centre of the large rectangle to create a concertina-style effect. Secure between each fold with a dot of glue so you have a bow-tie shape. Wrap the smaller rectangle around the centre of the bow and secure using glue. Stick to a badge or hair clip - bow ties for the men, hair clips for the ladies - and pin to an escort card
