Stately Home Wedding

Bride Sallie, 29, and her husband Duncan, 32, fell so in love with Wedderbirn Castle that they booked it as their wedding venue having only seen it on the internet. 'I live in London and had set my heart on marrying in a Scottish castle,' says Sallie. 'I think Scotland is the most beautiful place in the world.'

A fashion advertising director for Tatler magazine, Sallie blew her budget on a £7,000 bespoke gold and cream Oscar de la Renta wedding dress. 'I had to have it - I don't care if I pay it off for the rest of my life!' says Sallie, who decided against carrying a bouquet. 'I didn't want to hide the dress,' she explains. Gold was incorporated into her theme, with gold bridesmaid dresses, a gold Jaguar to deliver her to the church and gold umbrellas for the guests in case it rained - which, luckily, it didn't.

Following the ceremony in the village church, guests enjoyed a glass of prosecco on the castle's lawn, followed by a quirky sit-down feast. 'Thai cuisine is my favourite,' says Sallie, 'so we decided to have two menus: one Eastern, one traditionally British.'

The day passed in a blissful haze until a rather embarrassing first dance to Fear and Love by Morcheeba. 'We hadn't practiced and only managed to sway around the room,' says Sallie. 'Unluckily for us, the videographer missed it, so we had to do the dance all over again. We were even worse the second time!'
