Frances Ady, 30, married Ben Spargo, 28, at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, Australia, followed by a reception at Fatto Bar & Cantina, on 1 February 2014. She says:

"We wanted to create a tranquil and elegant day that had the feel of a summer dinner party. To add to the vibe, we hired a Spanish guitarist to play throughout the reception - a well-known Melbourne DJ then got everyone in the party mood later.

My Mira Zwillinger dress was my biggest extravagance. It was on the first page of the first wedding magazine that I bought - I fell in love with it immediately. To be on the safe side, I tried on three other dresses but always came back to this one design.

After the ceremony, Ben and I went and sat by ourselves for a few minutes. The lead up to the wedding was so frantic, and the day itself so busy that it was wonderful to just embrace and think 'we're married!'

On arrival, guests were handed Aperol Spritzes, while at the end of the evening we served mini espresso martinis to help perk people up and continue the party.

Because Ben is an operations manager he took care of the organisational side of things. We included friends where possible but didn't want to burden people.

Instead of a traditional tableplan and place cards, our stylist wrote guests' names on the restaurant's tiled wall and tied tags to the backs of chairs. We had so many great comments about how amazing it looked.

My top tip: Trust your suppliers. If you have done your research carefully and selected quality vendors, then let them be creative. And be prepared to spend a little more - good, talented people will be more expensive."
