'Would you like a foot ritual with your welcome drink?' asks Aslam, our host. Welcome to Anantara Kihavah Villas.
When the hotel first opened, keen 'walk-in' guests arrived without booking - practically unheard of in the Maldives. The resort checks all the boxes: something overwater (the spa), something underwater (the wine cellar and dining room, Sea), and something that's bigger than all the rest (at 49 metres, the longest pool in the Maldives). Not one tree was cut down during construction, giving the palm-stuffed island an established feel. The villas (34 on the beach, 40 overwater) are designed for lingering, with large pools, a stocked fridge and wine chiller, as well as a swinging day bed that calls out for a lazy afternoon with a book, gazing over paradise. Wow factor: The glass-bottom sunken baths in the overwater villas.
