Rachel Ruiz, 31, an advertising manager, and her TV producer husband, Federico, 32, decided to blow their budget, and turn their honeymoon into a super-luxurious maxi-moon. Here's the lowdown (we're not envious at all)…

"Arriving at this amazing hotel, after ducking and weaving through this wonderfully manic city, is sublime. Could we really have found such a sanctuary in the midst of all the chaos? It certainly seemed so when, on arrival, we found our bath filled with oh-so-relaxing aromatic oils and delicate rose petals to wash off the day's travelling. There's plenty to do at the Banyan Tree - should we have a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool or an indulgent treatment at the spa? - but the absolute highlight was dining at the famous rooftop restaurant Vertigo, overlooking the vast array of city lights and Bangkok buzz below. The food was fab (the best of our trip) and the view head-spinning - ably assisted by supersized cocktails, perhaps? Our stopover may have been short, but we left plotting our imminent return."

WOW FACTOR Order the melon cocktail in Vertigo. This sweet yet tangy delight is served in an enormous bowl along with a dramatic flourish of dry-ice mist.
