Set behind the award-winning white beach of Bwejuu, Baraza's location on the east coast of Zanzibar is hard to beat. Just think of the Bounty advert, of warm waves crashing down on soft white sand...you've got it.
Conceived and designed by the Raguz family, Baraza is an exotic resort with architecture styled on the palaces of Omani sultans - low white buildings with archways run throughout framing the bespoke interiors, with wonderful pieces of furniture built specially for the resort.
There are numerous barazas (built in banquettes) for guests to chill and mingle on, and sexy bay beds which give everything a wonderfully opulent yet relaxed air.
The resort has 31 villas, all spacious and with their own plunge pool, but honeymooners are reserved a prime spot in one of the 13 seafront villas.
You can just trip from your bed out onto the beach and soak up the rays, or opt to relax around the main swimming pool (complete with under water music!) and be served a bevy of cocktails, ice creams and treats during the day.
The staff genuinely want you to enjoy yourselves and are constantly trying to top up your glass or offer another sundowner in the romantic, fairy lit bar.
A highlight was the private BBQ on the beach in front of our villa, as well as the beach and long walks, with the waves crashing in late afternoon.
The Raguz family have created a 5* hotel with wonderful facilities, yet it feels totally authentic and remains true to the charm of Zanzibar.
