We spend so much time thinking about a bride's hair trial, make-up trial, beauty plans (and more), that we're at risk of overlooking how important it is for the groom to look and feel his best on the big day. Enter: bespoke barbering services. From a shave to the all-important hair cut, these things could make or break how confident you feel on the day. That's why we're super excited about one of London's best salons launching a dedicated bespoke barbering service. Michael Van Clarke in Marylebone is renowned for its brilliant stylists and luxury service (they also happen to be experts in bridal hair), and now they're adding a new string to their bow.
Claudio Pizzo has just joined the team as Master Barber – and he's armed with 20-years' experience in high-end men's grooming. Coming straight from Mayfair's Gentleman's Tonic, a salon well-known for exceptional services, Claudio is an absolute expert in barbering. You're in safe hands!
Brides sent stubble-loving Keiran Coyne to try the service out for himself. Here's what he said:
The bright, clean and welcoming luxury salon offers a different experience to the usual men’s barber shop and is perfect for anyone seeking that special trim for their wedding day. Claudio offers everything you would need and expect: a haircut (with either scissors or clippers) with high-end touches – a hot towel and wet shave as well as beard design and trim. Using a straight-razor is the only real way have the latter done and you really need an experienced barber to do it properly. Claudio was meticulous, meaning I could relax without the slightest worry of suffering any nicks or scratches. It’s easy for barbers to do this too quickly without properly prepping your skin – or cleansing it afterwards – which leaves you, hours later, with dreaded shaving burn.
Claudio recommended booking in for a haircut one week before the big day, which would allow the style to shape and settle. Or, if you want Claudio to come to you, Michael Van Clarke also offers a full on location service for your whole wedding party. For both you and your groomsmen, this would be the perfect way to get a classic shave and ensure those sharp clean lines on the day of the wedding.
I was set up with a drink while Claudio went about assessing my beard and hair, before suggesting what the best wedding-day look could be for me. It took him seconds to understand exactly what I was looking for. And, as someone who's had the same haircut for the last few years, I also found his advice incredibly helpful! Claudio talked me through all the the latest men's styles and trends, but we agreed the best thing would be to keep it tidy and traditional for a wedding day. He even gave me lots of aftercare advice about how to keep the style he'd created looking good. This would be really helpful for anyone hosting a weekend-long celebration or destination wedding.
From £28 for a Beard Trim. Wet Shave costs £42 or £56 for a Wet Shave with Facial Prep. On-location Groom and Groomsmen services cost £85 per hour
