Bridal Make-Up Tutorial In 5 Steps

With more than 195,000 views across YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, we know you're loving our leap year proposal video, where 11 women proposed to their totally unsuspecting partners. But we also know you've fallen head over heels for the glam beauty looks created by Lisa Potter-Dixon, Benefit Cosmetics' head make-up artist. Not only were they super pretty, but they were on-trend and suited each woman to a tee.

Holly, 29, who proposed to boyfriend Pete, 29, adored the modern but romantic look Lisa designed for her. 'Holly didn't want to look too traditionally soft and "bridal",' says Lisa. 'She wanted something standout that embraced the season's hot trends like contouring, smokey eyes and defined brows.'

Want the look? Here are Lisa's secrets on how to recreate it yourself…

Step 1: Get HD brows

'Right now it's all about brows, which make an incredible difference to your face. A good shape is like an instant eye lift. Start by defining them with Brow Zings EyeBrow Shaping Kit and then add volume with my fave brow product, Gimme Brow Eyebrow Gel, which fills any gaps and holds your shape in place.'

Step 2: Sculpt a smokey eye

'The trick here is buffing. I actually only used one Longwear Powder Eyeshadow to create Holly's look - a dark grey - but I brought the shadow away from the eyelid with a make-up buffing brush to lengthen and open up the eye. The trick it is to build up slowly. Keep buffing and blending, and going back and forth so it looks like a shadow, not a stripe. Next, add definition to the lower and upper waterline with BADgal Waterproof Eyeliner in Black, before layering on tons of They're Real! Lengthening Mascara to frame the eyes.'

Step 3: Ace your base

'Now it's time for your base, but before you get started, clean your complexion to remove any fallen shadow from the buffering. Next apply The POREfessional Face Primer to minimise pores, remove excess oil and keep your base firmly in place.

Holly normally uses a powder mineral foundation but these can look heavy in pictures so I used the dewy Hello Flawless! Oxygen Wow Liquid Foundation, which gives great coverage but is light. I also used Fake Up Under Eye Concealer and Boi-ing Concealer on problem areas for a flawless look.'

Step 4: Sculpt and shade

'Contouring is a huge beauty buzzword right now, giving your face more shape and definition. I started by using my trusty Hoola Bronzer, which I applied in a figure of '3' either side of Holly's face to sculpt her cheekbones and jawline. Highlighting is also key to contouring, giving you incredibly glowing skin. For this, I used Watt's Up! which I applied to the high points of Holly's cheek bones, brow bones and cupids bow to help them catch them light and give her look a wedding-worthy glow.'

Step 5: Perfect your pout

'With the focus on the eyes, I used Hoola Ultra Plush Lip Gloss which is a non-sticky shimmering nude gloss that completes the look beautifully.'

Lisa's top bridal tip! 'Don't be afraid to do something a bit different on your wedding day if that's what you want to do. Just remember to have a trial beforehand to ensure it's right for you. Don't forget, you can always have a natural look for the day and vamp it up for the evening party with a darker eye or a bright lip!'
