If you're looking for the ultimate flower girl or page boy thank you gift, this is it.
Dukes Hotel, tucked just behind the Ritz in London's Mayfair, is serving up a magnificent Charlie And The Chocolate Factory Tea - in honour of Sam Mendes' new West End production of the famous play.
My advice is to get some vegetables down them before you visit because this is a serious calorie and sugar overload. Chef Nigel Mendham starts them off with some ice cold chocolate milk to help wash down eggs filled with chocolate mousse, a chocolate cake topped with gold leaf, chocolate brownies, sorbets and coins - all beautifully presented on their very own (pink in my daughter's case) cake stand.
None of this caused my four-year-old any problems at all and she powered through the entire feast like she hadn't eaten for a week, while I sipped some pink Perrier Jouet and tried very very hard not to steal off her plate.
Dukes has very cleverly adapted the traditional afternoon tea ritual to make it super child friendly. Lots of big squishy pillows to keep the setting relaxed and more robust crockery so you're less likely to feel mortified if it hits the floor. Not that you would, the staff are very relaxed too which helps a lot.
When they've eaten enough to impress even Augustus Gloop, you'll whisk them off to the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane with tickets to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, all neatly pre-arranged by Dukes Hotel for you. You may want to pass on the interval box of Maltesers though...
