Last year we gave our readers the chance to win the ultimate couture wedding dress experience with none other than Phillipa Lepley.
The hard-fought competition was won by Lauren, and our lucky bride-to-be's couture process began with a design session last November. Fast-forward a few months and the design process is now well underway.
Following the design stage where the basic shape of the dress was decided upon, came the measurement fitting which sized up every inch of Lauren's body.
Julie, Phillipa's couture fitting manager explains the process: "There are a set of measurements that need to be taken and perfected because that is what will make the dress fit like a glove. We need to make sure we get the base right before adding on to it."
Even things like your posture are taken into consideration!
From these various measurements, the pattern cutter creates a paper pattern from which a calico toile will be made.
Two sessions in and Lauren couldn't be happier: "The fittings have been amazing," she explains. "I could not believe how many different people it took to make a dress. It feels like there is a specific person/team for each stage of production!"
Next stage? The corset.
