The Best Wedding Songs For Disney Fans

From romantic ballads to serious party tunes, there’s a Disney song to suit all weddings.

As someone who is no stranger to a wedding dance floor, one of the absolute best songs I’ve ever danced to at a wedding was a Disney tune. It was at a wedding in a barn in the Cotswolds, the couple had hired an indie band to play all the classic tunes you'd expect. Then all of a sudden the band switched it up and started playing 'Everybody wants to be a cat' from The Aristocats. It was familiar, unexpected, hilarious and a huge hit as everyone made their way onto the dance floor for the pure novelty of it all.

So from the classic love songs to the unexpected bangers, here are our favourite wedding songs for all the Disney fans out there.

Can You Feel The Love Tonight from Lion King

Best for: your first dance

A classic first dance song regardless of whether you’re a Lion King fan or not. For a unique twist, swap the Elton John version for just an instrumental version for your ceremony, or even have it performed by a live band at your reception.

Married Life from Up

Best for: play it as you walk down the aisle or as your first dance

If you’ve seen the move UP you’ll instantly recognise this charming tune which features no lyrics but is full of emotion, with the melody flowing up and down - just like married life. The upbeat spirit makes it a subtly romantic song for your first dance. Extra points if you can carry off some simple choreography to go with it.

Beauty and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast

Best for: your first dance, especially if you’re wearing a princess wedding dress

As long as your partner is willing to ignore the ‘beast’ reference, this is one of the most romantic Disney songs ever. Made even better if you play it as your first dance in a sprawling ball room while wearing an equally dramatic ball gown. Now that’s a princess wedding moment!

Kiss the Girl from The Little Mermaid

Best for: play it as you walk down the aisle or as your processional song

Sung by Ariel’s crabby crustacean friend Sebastian, this song plays during the crucial romantic moment of the movie when Eric is set to kiss Ariel. The slight calypso style of the song makes it a perfect tune for a summer or destination wedding.

A Whole New World from Aladdin

Best for: your first dance

Up there as one of the best duets of all time, A Whole New World is an instantly recognisable tune that your guests are sure to love. To make it extra memorable, hand out the lyrics to the song (although everyone will probably know them), and ask everyone to sing along with you as your enjoy your first dance.

You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story

Best for: your ceremony, entrance or first dance

If you love Disney but not so keen on channelling the full Disney princess vibe on your wedding day, then this famed song from Toy Story is the ultimate option. Perfect as a wedding ceremony song, reception entrance song or first dance, the lyrics of this Randy Newman tune describe not only what a friendship should be, but also a marriage: You've got troubles, and I've got 'em too, There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you, We stick together and we see it through, 'Cause you've got a friend in me.

I Wan'na To Be Like You by The Jungle Book

Best for: playing on the dance floor

A jazzy toe-tapping tune, 'I wan'na to be like you' is a great one to request from your wedding band and surprise your wedding guests with. If you're not having a band, Robbie Williams also did a swing cover version of the tune with Olly Murs, which is a great alternative.

Friend Like Me from Aladdin

Best for: your bridal party's entrance or on the dancefloor

Fast paced and full of brass, this seriously fun crowd-pleasing tune is one you have to request from your wedding band. Originally sung by Robin Williams as part of his role as the Genie, Ne-Yo has also released a very danceable cover of the song too. Whichever version you choose, make sure you've got your besties by your side when it starts playing.

Love Goes On from Robin Hood

Best for: your first dance

Lesser known than the other tunes on this list, Love Goes On is a seriously romantic and dreamy song from the 1973 Disney film Robin Hood. With lyrics like 'Once we watched a lazy world go by, Now the days seem to fly,' it's an ideal song for a couple that has been together for a long time.

Hakuna Matata from The Lion King

Best for: a late night tune on the dance floor

Literally everyone knows the words to this song, and if they claim they don't, they surely will after a few pints. Play it later on in the night and get ready for everyone to be shouting 'Hakuna Matata' as loud as they can.
