To ensure you won’t be hiding behind your bouquet I went to skincare expert Susanne Kaufmann for some answers. With her own skincare line that aims to be natural, efficacious and gentle, Susanne is an expert when it comes to improving your skin's health and appearance with the latest in natural ingredients and the latest technologies. Needless to say, you're in safe hands with pre-wedding skin-care advice.

When should a bride start getting facials ahead of their big day?

Ultimately, it's never too early to start getting regular facials, but according to Susanne, 8 months before your wedding is an ideal time.

"Start introducing facials into your skincare regime 8 months before your wedding day," advises Susanne. "This way your skin can get used to new products and it cuts down the risk of breakouts before the wedding. After this, we recommend every 6 weeks then two weeks before the big day."

How long before the wedding day should a bride have a facial?

To ensure your skin is glowing but free any post-facial breakouts, Susanne recommends booking your last facial appointment two weeks before your wedding day.

What are the benefits of a facial?

Whether you’ve got a problem complexion that needs deep-cleansing or dull skin crying out for some TLC, a facial helps work against signs of aging and gives skin a much needed pick me up. Susanne combines traditional Chinese medicine in her treatments whilst using lymphatic draining massage that helps stimulate the skins metabolism and gets rid of all stress-related tension.

What type of facial should a bride have?

In the lead up to your wedding, it's important to be wary of one-size-fits-all facials. Instead, opt for a facial that involves a consultation and can be tailored to the you based on your lifestyle and skin type.

We asked Susanne what she would recommend for brides-to-be:

"As a first treatment we would recommend to start with a Alkaline Facial Treatment combined with ultrasound. It consists of an intensive cleansing, deacidifying fleece mask, pampering massage and deeply effective products. The treatment helps the skin to free itself from acidic remnants and brings it back to its natural balance. The regeneration process of the skin is supported, the appearance of the skin is significantly improved, the cells are filled with new energy and the skin retains a feeling of wonderful harmony.

"The second treatment we recommend to brides is the Bespoke Rejuvenating Facial, which combines functional herbal complexes with fascial massage influenced by the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in a highly effective, customised treatment. The 90 minute facial protocol is personalized to effectively target all signs of aging while addressing the harmful effects of environmental pollution. Employing lymphatic drainage and proprietary connective tissue massage, the Susanne Kaufmann Bespoke Rejuvenating Facial stimulates the skin’s metabolism while relieving stress-related tension.

"The personalized protocol incorporates the NEW Susanne Kaufmann Pollution Defense System, an innovative treatment regimin thats protects skin from environmental aggressors and boosts repair mechanisms to prevent long-term damage. Comprised of three different complexes, Vitamin C, Ectoine and CoQ10 ampoules, the Pollution Defense System is incorporated into the facial using various massage techniques. As a result of the treatment, microcirculation is improved, collagen production is stimulated and natural rejuvenation mechanisms are accelerated to reveal beautiful healthy skin with a youthful radiant appearance."
