Forte Village, Sardinia, Italy

We're not going to lie to you - the children will go bonkers at Forte Village.

At 9am, they're taken by the chirpy staff to enjoy a hearty breakfast before diving head-first into fun at the kids' club, the Children's City. Once there, they can do art, theatre and writing workshops, or take part in football and rugby academies run by the pros. Later in the afternoon, there are rehearsals for the after-dinner show put on for the parents, with a tweenies' disco at 8pm.

Luckily, there's none of this on the agenda for honeymooners; expect lazy days basking on Chia Beach - one of Italy's greatest. Over in the spa, there's even 'a spa doctor' who's on call to prescribe mindblowing therapies.

Come nightfall, book one of the saintly nannies and have a private dinner for two on the beach before joining in the nightlife at the main square, Piazza Maria Luigia.

Room tip: If you can, bag one of the three coveted villas for oodles of space and your own butler; the new Villa Chiara has not one but three private pools - one for dipping, one for swimming and a third for whirlpooling.

WOW FACTOR: Leisureland, an area crammed with family-friendly activities - go-karting, a bowling alley, climbing walls, video game stations and more.

GO: A room costs from £241 per person per night; EasyJet ( return flights start at £124.

FLIGHT TIME: 2 hours, 30 minutes.
