How should a modern bride wear her hair on the big day?

The whimsical plaits of Pinterest are falling out of favour and the super-sleek pony tails of the fashion world seem almost too bland for such a momentous occasion. You are left with voluminous up-dos which feel so very, well, let's just leave it at 'not modern'.

Answering that question with undeniable verve was international backstage hair stylist James Pecis at Julian Macdonald's London Fashion Week show.

The Welsh designer's finale look was a show-stopping wedding dress, estimated to be worth an eye-watering £4 million. While many were oohing and aahing about the diamond- and pearl-encrusted gown, we were taken aback by the hair.

Upon first glance it looks like it may be a veil so fine and so tightly wrapped around the head that it can't quite be made out. Yet closer inspection reveals a different story: lace cut outs pinned to slicked back hair as if by magic.

If this isn't the most modern bridal do you've ever seen, we don't know what is.
