Since celebrities are public figures who live in the limelight, it’s really difficult for any of them to go under the radar. When Daisy Ridley and Tom Bateman were first spotted wearing matching rings in September of 2022, fans couldn’t help but speculate that the couple had tied the knot. It wasn’t until an interview for Rolling Stone, which was published on January 23, 2023, that the Star Wars star finally confirmed the rumors. When asked about her ring and her relationship status, she simply stated, “Yes! I got married.” However, the actress didn’t reveal any of the details behind her big day.

The duo first met while filming Murder on the Orient Express and have been dating since 2017. In June of 2019, Ridley stepped out wearing a diamond rock and a gold band on her ring finger, but she never personally announced her engagement, according to Hello. Then, in September of 2020, the couple grabbed lunch in Notting Hill in London with Ridley’s mother, Louise Fawkner-Corbett, and both appeared to be sporting rings. Again, neither of them confirmed nor denied the rumors.

During an interview with Marie Claire for a story that was published on October 27, 2021, the reporter asked Ridley about her sparkler. She evaded the question. “It’s a really nice ring that I wear,” she stated. “Oh my God, it’s the first time I’ve publicly been asked this one. The thing is, I’ve never talked about my personal life, so I won’t talk about it now. I’m so aware of how much information about my life is out there, so if there’s one thing I don’t want to talk about…”

The Peter Rabbit actress also opened up about her desire for privacy in an interview with Glamour, referencing the time she deleted Instagram. “It’s not good for me personally,” she admitted. “I’m just not equipped for it. I’m super sensitive—not too sensitive, but I really feel things. Also, there is also a sense that I’m asked who I’m dating a lot more than John [Boyega] is. I don’t answer because I have things in my life that are private.”

While speaking with Rolling Stone, Ridley opens up about overcoming social anxiety, which is why she relates to her character Fran, who plays a guarded and dismissive coworker, in Sometimes I Think About Dying. “I feel a huge amount of empathy for the character,” she reveals. “I’m not the most social person. I find social interactions a lot of times quite difficult, unless there’s a reason. Work meetings are fine. If there’s a purpose, I’m fine. But otherwise, I’ve always found social interactions difficult.” Following the massive success of Star Wars, the actress explains that the fame she experienced didn’t cause her as much distress as forced social situations. “It’s strange because the attention in that way is very different,” she says.

She also shares how acting on the set of Star Wars was an overall positive experience. “And for me, Star Wars is joyful,” she expresses. “I know they bring up a lot for other people, but for me it was joy. Not always. It was difficult, but overall, I loved my experience. I worked with amazing directors and actors that I respect, so it was an amazing beginning of a career.”
