Mollies Boutique Hotel, Auckland, and The Boatshed, Waiheke Island

18 Sep 2014

Rachel Ruiz, 31, an advertising manager, and her TV producer husband, Federico, 32, decided to blow their budget, and turn their honeymoon into a super-luxurious maxi-moon. Here's the lowdown (we're not envious at all)…

"In the suburb of St Mary's Bay - a stone's throw from popular Ponsonby, bursting with shops and restaurants - Mollies offers a charming blend of traditional Victorian architecture, contemporary art and bespoke furniture - our suite even housed a grand piano! Hospitality is slick - we were met with champagne and snacks on arrival. Breakfast also comes with a fanfare - we enjoyed sofrito, a Spanish-style stew with tomatoes, onions, peppers and paprika topped with chorizo and poached eggs. A short ferry ride from Auckland pier to Waiheke Island, you'll find another magical hideaway - the Boatshed - nestled above a sandy bay. After a glass of New Zealand's finest, we asked the locals what we should do with our afternoon. Their answer? 'Relax and enjoy the view.' We did just that."
