What do you get when a leading bridal designer pairs up with a world-renowned cake designer? One covetable collaboration, that's what!
Baking maestro Peggy Porschen has taken inspiration from couturier Phillipa Lepley's 2015 collection and dreamt up a new wedding cake design. What's more, the collaboration has sparked a new cake matching service so you can tailor the look for your big day!
Phillipa Lepley brides are given a swatch of lace or fabric from their gown after the 'toile' fitting at the atelier, which you take along to your consultation with Peggy, who will create a completely bespoke (and delicious!) centrepiece for the wedding.
Visit Phillipa's atelier to see the cake sitting alongside the gorgeous gown that sparked the collaboration. The 'Umbrella Fleur' dress is a delight of textures; the silk duchess satin corseted bodice gives way to an intricate umbrella-shaped skirt with five different types of silk organza flowers, each one hand-sewn on to the gown.
Peggy recreated the cascading blooms for the aptly named 'Phillipa' cake using delicate sugar flowers which tumble over five-tiers. This exquisite detail conceals a light-as-air vanilla sponge and layers of velvety Italian meringue buttercream.
Peggy explained the design process; "I took inspiration from Phillipa's exquisite gowns, especially the enchanting and innovative silhouettes and the subtle shades of crisp ivory and soft cream. The detailing caught my eye - layered chiffons, French lace, vintage pearls and organza flowers were all elements that inspired me and perfectly complement my own decorating style."
Phillipa, who shares Peggy's passion for baking, said; "I'm delighted to be working closely with Peggy in this way, I have always admired Peggy's deliciously decadent cakes and I am thrilled that all my brides will now be able to work closely with her to bring to life their dress in this way. The process of finding your dream dress can be over so quickly, and not only will this add another enjoyable dimension for the bride but it is sure to be a wow-factor statement at any wedding reception."
A match made in heaven, indeed!
Peggy Porschen's bespoke design service is subject to availability with cakes starting from £2,500. Phillipa Lepley's couture creations start from £6,000. Phillipa and her team ideally require at least 6 months to create a bespoke dress but then Phillipa has never been known to turn away a frockless bride!
