Ask anyone who's planned or attended a wedding in the last decade and they'll tell you that fall is one of the most popular seasons for couples to tie the knot. It's easy to understand why: Great weather, even better backdrops, and delicious flavors (that can be creatively employed in everything from canapés and cakes to entrées and signature drinks) all come free with a wedding date in September, October, or November. Whether you go savory (pumpkin, sage, and allspice all come to mind) or sweet (in the form of apples, cranberries, and cinnamon, of course), infusing your big-day menu with the flavors of the season is simple. And, when it comes to signature cocktails for a wedding, the results are guaranteed to be unexpected and crowd-pleasing.

So, what kind of spirits should you choose for your fall wedding signature drinks? If you want to serve something on the lighter side, sparkly Prosecco pairs perfectly with pear, ginger, and sage. You also can't go wrong with the aromatic, herbaceous flavor of rosemary in a range of fall wedding cocktails, from a simple gin and lemon combo to a more involved concoction. Prefer a bolder, richer cocktail? Dark rum paired with sweet apples, bourbon infused with the flavors of nutmeg and vanilla bean, or a cardamon-scented spiked chai are great options. Plus, with winter on its way, citrus fruits (like grapefruit or orange) can be a bright addition to refreshing bubblies or warming mulled drinks spiced with cinnamon and cloves.

If you're ready to start testing different drink options, start with our 17 favorite fall wedding cocktail ideas. While you can work with your caterer or mixologist to tinker with your final offering, these tried-and-true recipes are ones that everyone will enjoy, and that's true whether they're served straight up, on the rocks, or in a nice, warm mug.
