7 Reasons Why You Should Have A Destination Wedding

Not sold on having a wedding at home? The world is your oyster when it comes to planning a destination do, and it’s a lot easier than you think!

Whether your family and friends are spread out around the world, or you’ve got your heart set on saying ‘I do’ in a far-flung location, it really is hard to beat the idea of getting married abroad. And, turns out, there are a lot more perks to having a destination wedding than just being able to guarantee sunny weather and stunning surrounds.

It will automatically cull the guest list

If your predicting your guest list (and family politics) to get out of control when the time comes to send your invitations, then a destination wedding could be the answer to your woes. According to a recent survey by Sandals, almost a third of people surveyed only kept in touch with 26 to 50% of their wedding guests after their big day. Which begs the question, if you’re only going to keep in touch with half of your wedding guest, do you even really need to invite everyone?

Enter the destination wedding and the perfect solution to your guest list stress. Asking your friends to hop on a plane for your wedding will quickly help to cull your guest list down to your nearest and dearest without hurting anyone’s feelings.

And can be (surprisingly) great value

If you’re on a budget, don’t be put off by a destination wedding. While you will of course be up for extras like flights and accommodation, at some overseas venues you'll enjoy much more bang for your buck than you would in the UK. Moreover at some resorts (particularly in the Caribbean) the wedding ceremony and reception is often heavily discounted, or even included, as part of your wedding group booking.

It’s so much harder to stress when you’re in a beautiful location

Planning a wedding will always come with a bit of stress, but if you’re in an exotic (and ideally warm) location, it’s amazing how easily you can slip into holiday mode and stress less about the big day. Let’s face it, being at home versus by the pool with a cocktail before your wedding day? It’s a no brainer.

Plus, as you may already know about getting married abroad, having a wedding planner is essential, which in turn makes your life a lot easier.

"At Sandals, we have a fantastic team of wedding planners located in both the Caribbean and in London," says Marsha Ann, who enjoys the unique title of 'Director of Romance' at Sandals and Beaches Resorts. "So brides and grooms can see how their wedding will be set up before they even get on the plane."

All of your guests will be in holiday mode

Not only can a destination wedding be less stressful for you, it’s also less stressful for your guests. Once the travel is over and everyone has arrived, your friends and family will be free to start enjoying their holiday and mingle with the other wedding guests.

You’ll get to spend a lot more quality time with everyone

How many times have you attended a wedding and hardly even spoke to the happy couple? Too often! Whereas at a destination wedding, not only will have you fewer guests to mingle with, but you’ll have more time to spend with them before, during and after the big day.

Your wedding photography will be extra special

Whether it’s a tropical sunset, mountainous backdrop or vineyard setting, a destination wedding will ensure your wedding photos are truly memorable.
