Your first dance together can be a nerve-wracking experience, so it's worth considering having a few dance lessons to help boost your confidence as a couple. Start the Dance is a good, London-based dance company that will help you do just that.
Started by former disco and Latin dance champion Jess Brichto back in 2005, Start the Dance's 12-strong team of professional choreographers will help newly-married couples, whatever their ability, to feel confident (and co-ordinated!) when they step out in front of their guests for the first time.
"I saw so many wedding dances that were awkward to watch, so I thought it was a good idea to start doing dance lessons," said the company's founder Jess Brichto. "I think dance lessons have become part of the wedding planning process, and so many people find that it's nice to spend time together as a couple. There is so much that they do separately during the planning process, and dance lessons are a way to come together and have fun," she continued.
The Start the Dance team are trained in a variety of dancing styles - whether you're looking for traditional ballroom or for a full-on Bollywood extravaganza.
Choreographer Miriam advises bringing along your chosen wedding song - and an open mind: "Couples don't need to prepare themselves, just a song. It's up to me to make them feel at ease. Come with an open mind and enjoy it. Mostly couples just want to feel at ease holding each other." Her advice for on-the-day nerves? "Don't worry about making mistakes - it doesn't have to be perfect. Just relax and let your groom lead you. Usually you'll find that your guests will encourage you."
