The Pig Near Bath, Bath, UK

What a tantalising treat this is. You'll find it difficult to get through the doors of this hotel without excitedly scoping out the animals first. So you'll pat the pet pigs, fluster the chickens and stare down the deer before plonking yourselves in the shabby-chic bar for an afternoon-long sit-in.

With only 29 bedrooms in the hotel, you can cosy-up in the living room, snug or drawing room without feeling crowded. The Pig has a greenhouse restaurant (a forager and kitchen gardener assist the head chef) and is committed to a 25-mile menu, meaning that 80% of what can't be grown on site is sourced within that radius.

Pleasingly, you won't find a burger on the menu, but you can tuck into 'Kentucky' fried wild rabbit with carrot purée, homemade tomato ketchup and crispy tobacco onions before retiring to the snug for several Tom Collins over lively games of Monopoly. Oh, and the serve-yourself breakfast is charming - go mad with the boil-your-own organic eggs and sourdough toast. An adorably British mini-moon - get in on the loveliness now.

WOW FACTOR: The gardens. As well as the animals, there's a smoke house and a wildflower meadow orchard.

GO: A double room costs from £139 per night;
