Thom Whiddett was an apprentice cutter at Timothy Everest, where Luke Sweeney headed up the made to measure business. In 2006, the duo decided to intertwine their fates – and names. The pair initially set up “shop” in a room in London’s Mayfair, where they took private orders. The first Thom Sweeney store opened in 2009, on the site of a former art gallery on nearby Weighhouse Street. Today, the name Thom Sweeney is internationally recognised and whilst their cut is perhaps contemporary by traditional standards, Thom Sweeney is not a designer brand, although some very fashionable people wear it. Thom Sweeney is timeless style with a modern sensibility; they make garments to last years, not seasons.
