We're wishing a happy anniversary to one of our favorite couples of all time, Amal and George Clooney! Of course, we couldn't help but look back at the Clooneys' gorgeous Italian wedding. From George's adorably fumbled proposal and Amal's Oscar de la Renta wedding dress to the stunning Venice location and the beyond star-studded guest list, we loved every detail of the couple's wedding on September 27th, 2014.

The Proposal

According to George Clooney, proposing to his love was not without hiccups. The actor told Ellen Degeneres that his proposal caught Amal off guard.

"I've got it all set up, timed out, and the song is coming and she gets up to go wash the dishes, which she's never done," he told Ellen. "And I'm like, 'What are you doing?' and she comes back in. And finally, I said, 'Ya know, I blew out the candle' and I said, 'I think the lighter's in the box behind you.' And she reaches around and she pulls out the box and I've got just the ring sitting in there and she pulls it out and she looks at it and she's like, 'It's a ring'—like as if somebody had left it there some other time."

"[I] said, 'I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life without you,'" he explains. "And she kept looking at the ring and she was looking at me and she was like 'Oh my God.'" Lucky for George the answer was "yes!" He then presented Amal with an ethically-sourced, emerald-cut, seven-plus carat diamond.

The Planning

Naturally, the couple would wed in Italy—that's where they met, after all—and George has those great Lake Como digs. Rumors swirled of locations and dresses, and in the end, it was Venice that took the honor of hosting the Clooneys' destination wedding on September 27, 2014.

The couple planned an event-filled weekend for their guests, with an itinerary filled with dinners, cocktails, and more. They arrived in Venice in style, aboard a boat aptly named the Amore.

The Dress

Amal's now-famous Oscar de la Renta-designed wedding dress—a gorgeous floor-length French lace creation with an on-trend off-the-shoulder neckline—stole the show from her Armani-decked fiancé. The beaming bride was the picture of royalty for her life-altering big day as she made her way to the Aman Canal Grande Hotel.

The Ceremony

Decorating the ceremony and reception were flowers in shades of white, including roses and hydrangeas. In front of a wall brimming with white candles at the hotel, the couple exchanged their vows in an intimate ceremony with 100 of their nearest and dearest.

The Guest List

The Hollywood-heavy nuptials drew the likes of Matt Damon and wife Luciana, Clooney's business partner Rande Gerber and his supermodel wife Cindy Crawford (who wore a navy blue sleeveless gown), Ellen Barkin, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, Bono, Anna Wintour, and Bill Murray (who happily gave a toast at the reception).

The Party

After hitting the dance floor for their first dance—to Cole Porter's "Why Shouldn't I?"—Amal swapped her princess dress for a golden Roaring Twenties–inspired tiered mini dress, also by Oscar de la Renta. A girl needs to dance, right? Plenty of Casamigos Tequila (apparently 100 cases were flown in) was sipped on at the star-studded event to keep the party going until 5 a.m.

The Civil Ceremony

Perhaps a bit backward, the couple celebrated their union first and then had a civil marriage service afterward. Wearing a custom-made Stella McCartney pantsuit (paired with a wide-brimmed hat for extra star wattage), Amal Alamuddin finally became Mrs. Amal Clooney.

The Honeymoon

Immediately following the civil ceremony, the new Mr. and Mrs. Clooney jetted off to London where Amal's family hosted another party in celebration of their wedding. The duo than retreated to their private British country manor for some much-needed alone time, before sadly cutting their honeymoon short for his work obligations. "It is not lost on me that I am spending my honeymoon at Comic-Con," the actor joked on stage at the event. Hey, being Mrs. Clooney can't be perfect all the time, right?
