Galyna Selezneva, 37, married Paul Johnson, 45, at the Atzaró in Ibiza, Spain, on 29th September, 2018. She says:
The first thing we decided was to marry in Ibiza. Paul and I shared a common love for the island even before we met and, within weeks of meeting, we travelled there together and shared some special words. We fell in love with the tranquility of Atzaró, full of olive trees and orange groves. Miniature oranges decorated tables and our bespoke cocktail 'Under the Orange Sky' included fresh orange juice. We now say ‘I orange you’ instead of ‘I love you’!
We couldn't have had the amazing weekend we had without our wedding planners, Kerry Ann Watson and Gemma Bowman, from Ibiza Wedding. They treated us like family, not a client. In fact, one of my top tips for anyone organising a destination wedding would be not to underestimate the amount of work that goes into it. If you're hiring a wedding planner (and I highly recommend it), don’t compromise on this. Get the best you can afford.
Paul has an investment in the flower industry, so took me to an Amsterdam grower where we handpicked each and every stem for our wedding. These were cut and flown to Ibiza for the floral arrangements. Our florist El Ramo de Flores created the most spectacular features for us with them. At the entrance, there was a cart of oranges with a trail of blooms flowing from it. At the ceremony we had an enormous floral arch, under which we said our vows. This was the first thing I saw when I had a walk around the venue early in the morning and it was so beautiful it actually made me cry. Our bouquets, buttonholes and the canopy of tea lights and flowers that was installed above the reception dinner all included the vibrant varieties we'd selected in Holland. Delphiniums, roses, dahlias, thistles, lisianthus, hydrangea... I like to call the resulting look 'fireworks of colour'. We felt this represented all the powerful emotions we were feeling on our wedding day.
I didn't choose my wedding dress; it chose me! It was our first day shopping for one and I didn't stand a chance of choosing something else once I'd tried it on. It's so elegant, but at the same time I felt like grown-up woman who has the self-confidence to wear a statement dress. My mother had tears in her eyes and, for the first time in my life, she said I reminded her of herself. That was it. Decision made.
